Rule 1 - Keep it simple. It is entirely possible to portay a realistic squaddie with DPM uniform, simple chest webbing and belt with an issue waterbottle. Thats what I wear when I do FISH/MOUT/OBUA/FIBUA whatever they call kicking the enemy out of a house is. I may not even wear rank slides or flashes - everyone in my team knows who I am and my rank. If I'm playing with other units, I'll wear a rank slide on my smock.

Rule 2 - Make sure it fits and buttons/buckles/clips are done up.

Rule 3 - No loose straps, everything taped down where possible. black masking tape is your friend.

Rule 4 - If you cant get a SA80 airsoft, go for a Diemaco C7. That way, if you re-enacting in a unit where you the choice of C7 or a C8, you could be someone who opts for the C7. SF can be quirky as they damn well please. You dont have go too fancy with Acogs, grenade launchers etc. If you do want an optical sight, get a replica TA31RCO.

Rule 5 - BERETS - look how the Brits/Canucks wear 'em ! I wear an olive beanie when soft hats are allowed - or a bush hat with a cut back rim if its hot and sandy.
